At Look Good Feel Better, we often hear firsthand how the program helps so many women regain control and sense of self during cancer treatment. Here is a letter from Carmen in California about her Look Good Feel Better experience, written in her own words.

Before I came to the group session, I was feeling very sad, alone, and completely depressed. I had teary eyes, which I’ve had a lot lately. I went from being an active woman with a job that I love, going to the gym regularly, and staying healthy, to being diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma cancer, stage 4, on 9/2/2016. My world shattered right in front of me, leaving me feeling hopeless, helpless and alone, and in disbelief of what had just happened to me.

Once I started the Look Good Feel Better session, the two ladies leading the workshop were so uplifting, and treated me with such dignity and love. I felt really good about myself. For the first time, I realized that I am not alone – that what I’m going through is normal, that there is life every day. I realized that I am not ugly because my hair fell out because of chemo. I can look and feel better by pampering myself, because I deserve it. I walked out of the building with a big smile on my face, a positive attitude, and feeling empowered.

Being with other women who have cancer , just like I do – women who are getting chemo, who share my feelings and emotions, and who know what I’m going thru and understand me – makes me feel normal; if they can stay positive and have fun during this hard time, so can I.

I am absolutely in love with this program, and I am so thankful that it is available. I can’t believe how positive and confident it made me feel. No words could ever express my gratitude.

Thank you for such an amazing labor of love.
