The 24th annual DreamBall raised $2.4 million to support Look Good...Feel Better® and the American Cancer Society at a black-tie gala held at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York on September 9. This year, the DreamBall honored Dan Brestle, vice-chairman and president, The Estée Lauder Companies North America, and Stephanie George, executive vice president, Time Inc. Also recognized was Geralyn Lucas, breast cancer survivor, author, and the 2008 “DreamGirl.” in New York City. Australian musical sensation and cancer survivor Delta Goodrem performed at the event.
For the past 23 years, the DreamBall has been the primary source of funding for Look Good...Feel Better, a free public service program that helps cancer patients cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Since 1987, the DreamBall has raised more than $35 million dollars for Look Good…Feel Better and the American Cancer Society. Approximately two thirds of all funds raised from the DreamBall support Look Good...Feel Better through the Personal Care Products Council Foundation and the American Cancer Society’s National Home Office. The remaining one third benefits the American Cancer Society’s Eastern Division.

DreamBall honoree Dan Brestle, vice-chairman and president, The Estée Lauder Companies North America, is responsible for leading the Estée Lauder Companies’ North American business across its multiple distribution channels. In addition, he supervises the Estée Lauder, M?A?C, Prescriptives and Tom Ford Beauty brands, and the BeautyBank division. In his remarks, Brestle praised the industry for its support despite the current economic situation. “Faced with the worst economic conditions in 10 years, it would have been easy and understandable for all of your companies to rationalize why they wouldn't support this year's event. But as Stephanie and I so very much appreciate, you again stepped up to provide the necessary funding to improve the quality of life for so many cancer patients.”
Stephanie George, a key supporter of Look Good...Feel Better and the American Cancer Society was also honored. As executive vice president of Time Inc. she presides over People, People en Español, People StyleWatch, Entertainment Weekly, Real Simple, In Style, Essence, and the Time Inc. Media Group, the company’s corporate sales and marketing arm. George said in her remarks that the Look Good…Feel Better program is all about “helping cancer patients realize that they are not in it alone, we are all in this battle together and when you’re in the beauty and fashion business, we do what we know best – help people look good!”

Geralyn Lucas, author of the nationally acclaimed book and Lifetime movie Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy was honored as the evening’s DreamGirl. Geralyn shared her personal experiences of how she coped with cancer and its treatment. She also discussed how Look Good…Feel Better helps patients through their cancer treatment and recovery. “Watching patients enter weary, tired and looking sick...the transformation in front of our eyes was a miracle. Yes, there was lipstick applied and eyelashes and wigs, but all of the women in that room sparkled when they left. I saw them look at themselves in their mirrors and smile. There was hope.”
Thank you to the DreamBall honorees and the cosmetic industry companies for their support of the DreamBall and the Look Good…Feel Better program.
